broken promises

these things you give me
are not mine, i know

and all you ask for is honor
for what is yours

like a fool
i make promises
i can never keep

and store things in barns
until the famine flashes

over

empty; i become
and well-deserved

like a dog
tail sagged between my legs

i know what you know
and all i see is

mercy
&
blessings

for another prodigal
on his way home

This is beautiful and thought provoking. And humbling. Thanks for sharing it.
