“welcome home,” she whispers
“i caught you dreamin’
on the other side of the sea”
i feel like a settler
of centuries ago
lost in a strange land
that promises something more
than what i used to know
“this place is tough like nails,
so grab some fuel,” she says,
“you’re gonna need it”
so i make it a venti
and drink till i’m wide-eyed
staring blankly at the ceiling
as another sleepless night crashes
overboard
she hurls me into her
hurricane once again, and
i must learn to swim
with sharks and fishermen
take a deep breath,” she screams,
“no one said it would be easy”
though
no one said it would be this hard
to make it in the land of the free
